Safe Driving Practices: A Commitment to Safety at Precision Services Unit

At Precision Services Unit (PSU), safety isn’t just a priority—it’s a core value. Whether working on-site or traveling between job locations, our commitment to safe practices extends to the road. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of workplace injuries and fatalities. That’s why we emphasize safe driving practices as part of our comprehensive safety program.

Here are OSHA-recommended driving practices that we incorporate into our operations to ensure the safety of our team and the communities we serve:

1. Always Wear a Seatbelt

Seatbelts save lives—plain and simple. They reduce the risk of serious injury by 50% in the event of a crash. At PSU, wearing a seatbelt isn’t optional; it’s mandatory for all employees operating or riding in company vehicles.

2. Eliminate Distractions

Distracted driving is a leading cause of accidents. OSHA highlights the dangers of texting, eating, or multitasking while behind the wheel. PSU enforces a strict no-texting-while-driving policy, and we encourage employees to pull over if they need to use their phones.

3. Avoid Fatigue

Driving while fatigued can be as dangerous as driving under the influence. We ensure our team members take adequate breaks and stay well-rested to remain alert on the road.

  • Be well-rested before driving.
  • Avoid taking medications that make you drowsy.
  • Set a realistic goal for the number of miles that you can drive safely each day.
  • Driving requires your full attention. Avoid distractions, such as adjusting the radio or other controls, eating or drinking, and talking on the phone.
  • Continually search the roadway to be alert to situations requiring quick action.
  • Stop about every two hours for a break. Get out of the vehicle to stretch, take a walk, and get refreshed.

4. Follow the Speed Limit

Speeding is not only illegal but also significantly increases the severity of accidents. At PSU, we encourage our drivers to adhere to posted speed limits and adjust their speed to match weather or road conditions.

5. Conduct Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspections

OSHA advises regular vehicle maintenance and pre-trip inspections to ensure safety. Our team conducts daily checks of brakes, tires, lights, and other critical systems to minimize risks.

6. Plan for Emergencies

Being prepared for emergencies is essential. Our vehicles are equipped with first aid kits, flashlights, and other traffic safety tools. We also provide our team with training on handling roadside emergencies.

7. Stay Informed About Weather Conditions

Sudden weather changes can make driving hazardous. PSU ensures our teams monitor weather forecasts and adjust travel plans to avoid dangerous conditions whenever possible.

8. Impaired Driving is Prohibited

Operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or even certain prescription medications is strictly prohibited. PSU maintains a zero-tolerance policy for impaired driving to protect everyone on the road. If you are impaired by alcohol or any drug, do not drive.

9. Avoid Aggressive Driving

  • Keep your cool in traffic!
  • Be patient and courteous to other drivers.
  • Do not take other drivers’ actions personally.
  • Reduce your stress by planning your route ahead of time (bring the maps and directions), allowing plenty of travel time, and avoiding crowded roadways and busy

Our Safety Culture

At PSU, we believe that fostering a culture of safety benefits not only our team but also our clients and the communities we serve. By adhering to OSHA’s safe driving practices, we aim to lead by example in prioritizing safety in every aspect of our operations.

Together, let’s make our roads safer for everyone.
